Leather jackets are classic and stylish and the can finish off an otherwise boring and drab ensemble to give a man’s look an instant lift. A nice leather jacket for men is an iconic clothing item, essential in any man’s wardrobe. Both the police officers and punks, college teachers and students wear leather jackets for men. This is because the naturally breathable material such as leather can be styled in so many different ways to suit the needs of a man wearing it.
During the twentieth century, leather jacket as a clothing item for men achieved an icon status partly through its counterculture image portrayed in TV and movies. Marlon Brando in the movie The Wild One, John Travolta in the movie Grease contributed to the popularity of the leather jacket. During the eighties, leather jackets were more rocker jackets with belt-buckle styled bottoms and a little bit oversized flapping collars.
However, leather jackets for men are not designed only for young bikers and even the air force officers in Europe began wearing them. Long leather coats were worn in 1915, and the U.S. Air Force wore bomber leather jackets, becuase these jackets would able to keep pilots warm when cockpits were not enclosed as they are now. Even bikers did wear them to keep them warm to survive an accident. Later versions were not created to protect the wearer from cuts and bruises and they are more fashion-friendly and lighter.
